It’s been a busy year for Mixtapes. Almost a year ago to the day of the upcoming release for Ordinary Silence (June 25th) they made a splash with their debut full-length, Even On The Worst Nights, which quickly catapulted the band to the forefront of indie-punk as one of the most exciting bands to hit the scene in years. And now, only a short year later, the prolific band returns to crank up the volume for fans with a raw, heartfelt album that could prove to be their best yet.

Since their last release, Mixtapes spent time honing their songwriting on tour, and for the first time ever the band came together as one, all contributing to the writing process. Working again with producer/engineer Eric Tuffendsam at Moonlight Studios in Fairfield, OH, Mixtapes emerged from the studio in early 2013 with fourteen cohesive songs that maintain the band’s signature sound while showing growth and maturity for a dynamic sounding album.

“Ordinary Silence is an album we worked on very hard, and very differently than before,” says singer/guitarist Ryan Rockwell. “From my standpoint this is the best and most honest collection of songs I have written since Maps. That's not to say the record sounds like Maps, or sounds like Even on the Worst nights. Parts of this album were hard to write, and I think the feeling comes through on the record.”

“We kind of over-prepared to record Even On the Worst Nights, and though we think it sounds great, we didn't want our new record to sound like EOTWN,” adds singer/guitarist Maura Weaver. “We decided to squeeze this one out although we weren't exactly sure how it was going to turn out, and I think in turn, it definitely sounds more earnest and I just feel much prouder of it. I think oftentimes stuff turns out sounding more genuine when it's done spontaneously.”

Genuine indeed! Mixtapes’ Ordinary Silence is anything but ordinary. With their tongue-in-cheek sense of humor and blunt honesty, the band peels back the layers one track at a time, revealing personal stories of their experiences and travels that fans have come to love and relate to and as heard on the newly released “Elevator Days,” a introspective track about recognizing the faults within.

“Elevator days is a song about being so stuck that short of running away or crying you feel hopeless,” says Rockwell. “It's a song about realizing that every day I judge everyone around me and never realizing I'm the one that needs to change. 90 percent of our problems with other people i think are actually ourselves, it can be an awful realization, and also a necessary one.”

“I think Elevator Days and through most of the album, Ryan and I are writing about trying to be better people despite how gut-wrenching that can be at times,” Weaver adds. “We're getting there.”

Mixtapes’ candid lyrics combined with the band’s complementing duel vocals provided by Rockwell and Weaver and memorable songwriting result in pure, indie-punk bliss. The perfect soundtrack for this summer.

“I hope you will listen to it an enjoy it,” Rockwell signs off. “I don't want to try to say anything clever or funny, or try to sell the album. Thanks for checking it out. It literally means so much to this guy that started writing songs 3 years ago hoping to play a show or two.”

Mixtapes will hit the road in May for a summer long trek across the U.S., including their “Let’s Talk Industry Tour,” “Ordinary Silence Tour” and Vans Warped Tour dates, in support of their highly anticipated new album, Ordinary Silence.
