Psychic Trauma

When Cloud Nothings debuted their first new song in two years, "I'm Not Part of Me," last month, there was no question that the band were not slowing down after the bombastic Attack on Memory. Channeling the sounds of growing up while reminiscing about the good old days, the song was (and is) fantastic in every way, and "Psychic Trauma" wastes no time being equally as pleasing. Beginning a bit off kilter and cleaner than the abrasion and grit we've grown accustomed to from Cloud Nothings, Dylan Baldi's vocals simmer into a growl as the song suddenly kicks into a no-holds-barred assault, barely letting up for a breath of air. With a quarter of the upcoming Here and Nowhere Else already out, it's hard to ignore the signs: Cloud Nothings may just emerge with one of the best albums of 2014, if not the best.
