London by way of Norway act Soft as Snow are at first glimpse yet another joining the ever growing ranks of electronic music, but they've got a different approach. For "Black Birds," the second single off their upcoming EP, Glass Body, danceable beats and massive hooks simply aren't the focus. The lengthy six and a half minute track is dense and complex, opting for thick, droning layers of sound over flighty, sugary ones. As a result, Oda Egjar Starheim's vocals are given a proper vessel to reach both shrill heights and hypnotic croons. After hearing what "Black Birds" and "Glass Body" have to offer, one can only hope the EP will follow suit. Glass Body is out next week via Houndstooth.
